Instructor: Jillian Steger
Jillian Steger is a fourth year student in the faculty of Political Science at UBC. Jillian has been involved a lot of event planning in her past including Oxfam UBC’s Hungry for Change silent auction, the North Shore Youth Parliament, Oxfam UBC’s No Sweat Fashion Show, the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days, Bowling to Beat Cancer for the Canadian Cancer Society and Oxfam UBC’s Chai with a Cause. In addition, Jillian has experience doing workshops as a workshop leader for the Student Leadership conference for two years, a presenter for Oxfam UBC’s HIV/AIDS campaign and as the Minister of Social Action for the Western Canada Youth Parliament. Jillian currently volunteers as the Minister of Community Fundraising and Corporate Relations for the British Columbia Youth Parliament.

- How they can get paper tickets
6.0 Event, how to encourage contributions and bids
- People are more willing to spend money in a fun atmosphere, creating this atmosphere is key
- The effectiveness of using emotionality to raise funds: Presentation of where the money is going – Camp Phoenix and Women’s Campaign School.
- It’s all in the design: Types of items, packaging them, creating a story behind them, having a live and silent auction, how the auctioneer encourages buying items
7.0 What you can do to make Urban Nights a fantastic event (split into small groups-each group tackling a different part of the event)
