Audrey Ackah

audrey-ackahAudrey Ackah attended the University of British Columbia where she obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2000 and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science in 2002. Audrey was an intern at the British Columbia Legislature in 2002. As an intern, Audrey had the opportunity to work with civil servants and with Members of the Legislative Assembly. Audrey graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Toronto with a Juris Doctor degree in 2005. Audrey practices labour and employment law and is called to the Ontario and British Columbia bars. Audrey was a member of the Canadian Women Voters Congress 2009 Women’s Campaign School Committee.


Meharoona Ghani

Meharoona has been working with the Provincial Government of BC for over 15 years. She is the Director of multiculturalism and anti-racism programming. Her current work supports communities in promoting multiculturalism and addressing racism by building partnerships and collaborations, increasing public awareness through education, and creating responses to address racism and hate.

In her current work and past community and academic capacity, Meharoona has presented on numerous panels on topics such as addressing racialized violence, racism in the media, violence against women and exploring methods used to build communities and partnerships. She also has extensive community-level experience in facilitating workshops on racial discrimination.

Meharoona holds a Master of Arts degree Gender and International Development (specialty in gender and race analysis) from the University of Sussex, Institute of Development Studies. She was a British Chevening Scholar which provided a scholarship to study in the UK. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Women’s Studies from the University of Victoria where she was awarded a Blue and Gold Circle Award for her Academic Achievement and Community Contribution.

In her spare time, she is a writer and tends to focus on issues of identity. In her distant past, she used to be a radio broadcaster with a Co-op radio station at the University of Victoria; and University of Sussex, UK. She hosted two shows: “Token Zone” and “South Asian Rhythm and Roots” – with the latter being her creation and production. Both shows featured musicians who tended to be marginalized from the mainstream. The shows combined music, spoken word, radio interviews, panels and call-in’s. “Token Zone UK” was nominated for a BBC1 award.


Lisa Hudson

lisa-hudsonLisa Hudson has long been interested in women in politics, and a casual conversation on the subject at a holiday gathering in 2007 introduced her to the Canadian Women Voters Congress. In February 2008, Lisa joined the Board of Directors and immediately became Board Secretary. Later that year, Lisa became Chair of the 2009 Women’s Campaign School Committee. It was Lisa’s first experience with the Women’s Campaign School and she was thoroughly impressed.

Lisa has over 25 years of administrative experience; most recently with the world’s largest private, not-for-profit forest research institute. Lisa is a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of the Richmond Hospice Association.



Jennifer Sweeney

Jennifer Sweeney is a consultant and educator with a special interest in leadership and governance. She holds a B.A. (Hon) from UBC and a Master of Science degree from Purdue University and an Associate Certificate in Leadership and Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of BC. She worked as a speech-language pathologist in health care for many years, then worked on developing community supports for stroke survivors. She has served on several professional and not-for-profit boards.




Catherine Yuen

Catherine Yuen is the Principal Consultant (Western Canada) of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Canada. This makes her the point of contact for trade, economic and cultural linkages between Canada and Hong Kong. Over the years, Catherine has established very strong relationships and a wide network with the media, business and cultural communities in the Western Provinces (covering BC, Alberta and the North West Territories), as well government officials at the Federal, Provincial and Municipal level, bringing people together for good cause. Because of her contributions, Catherine received the Outstanding Chinese Woman Award in 2005; was named one of BC’s most influential Chinese-Canadians in 2006; and listed as one the outstanding Canadians on the list of “Golden Mountain Heroes and Chinese Canadians of Outstanding Merit” in 2008. Catherine has extensive experience in management and public relations in both the public and private sectors. Catherine migrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1988. For the first ten years in Canada, Catherine engaged in real estate. She also provided induction training to new immigrants, helping them settle in and take on Real Estate as their first career. Catherine holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Hong Kong. She was trained in the United Kingdom on leadership, problem-solving and decision-making. She became a member of the UK Chartered Institute of Management with the designation MCMI. Catherine holds a BC Real Estate Nominee Licence. She also holds a Master Degree in Business Administration from the City University, USA.

Other than work, Catherine volunteers in the community. She is on the Board of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association in Vancouver, and the Hong Kong University Alumni Association (BC Chapter). Catherine is also an Hon. Member of the Vancouver Diamond Lions Club, and an Hon. Adviser of the Global Chinese Women Association. She has devoted time to developing young people, and has engaged as one of the panel judges for the annual student debates organized by students of various universities in British Columbia, as well as giving career talks to students.
