The Canadian Women Voters Congress wishes everyone a very Happy New Year as we look forward to an exciting 2010! There is a lot going on we want to share with you in this month’s newsletter and many opportunities to get involved. We hope to see you out at our events this year!

Women Voters Congress Dances with the Octopus!

 

Please join us for a fun evening for Congress members and special guests, January 26.

  • Introducing new Advisory Board Members, Joy MacPhail and Teresa Wat.

  • Recognizing, Bernice Davidson, newest honourary member

  • Prize draw – a new member will win free registration for our International Women’s Day event, March 6

  • Special trailer screening and Q & A with filmmaker Sandy Mayzell on her documentary, “Dancing with the Octopus: Women in Politics in Canada and Beyond”.

Tickets are limited: $10 for members and campaign school graduates; $20 for non-members

The fundraising committee is seeking additional members. If you live in the Metro Vancouver area, have experience in fundraising, or a desire to learn how to fundraise to support programs for women’s success in politics and leadership, please let the chair of the fundraising committee know by sending an email to info@womenvoters.ca.

 

 

Save the Date

 

Please join the CWVC as we celebrate International Women’s Day with an education event on Saturday, March 6 at the Vancouver School of Theology, UBC. Keynote Speaker is Shushma Datt. Workshops and panellists being confirmed. This will be an exciting opportunity for those interested in learning more about women in leadership to come out, network and gain the skills necessary to help you develop as a leader in your workplace or community. Early-bird registration is only $75 until February 21. There will be a limited number of seats, so register early. Registration opens on January 25.

 

 

CWVC Advisory Board

Welcoming new members

 

We would like to welcome Joy MacPhail and Teresa Wat to our Advisory Board!

 

Joy MacPhail is a former Canadian politician in British Columbia. A long time member of the New Democratic Party, she served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from 1991 to 2005 and as a Minister of the Crown from 1993-1999, and 2000-2001. Joy MacPhail is currently a media commentator, a lecturer nationally and internationally and is the Chairwoman of OutTV, Canada’s GLBT television channel.

 

Teresa Wat is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Mainstream Broadcasting Corporation CHMB AM1320 and ITM International Top Model Corp. Prior to this position, Ms. Wat was the News Director at Channel M Television (now Omni Television). She was instrumental in successfully launching the first ever live Cantonese, Mandarin and Punjabi daily television news programs.

Scholarships, Scholarships, Scholarships!

 

In our December newsletter, we announced our efforts to raise money to sponsor one scholarship to the CWVC Women’s Campaign School per month! Expect an e-mail shortly with some exciting information about our successful December campaign and our efforts in 2010 to ensure that we are able to put on the next Women’s Campaign School, currently scheduled to take place in Fall 2010.
