The Canadian Women Voters Congress is pleased to look back at an exciting October that featured the rousing success of our Persons’ Day Education Day held in conjunction with The University Women’s Club. Starting this month we will also be featuring interviews with successful women leaders who attended our campaign school.
Featured Student: Sarah Blyth, Vancouver Park Board Commissioner
Prior to running for Park Board, Sarah worked with Eco Café, was employed as a Youth Outreach worker with SPEC (Society for Promoting Environmental Conservation), and worked in Ecuador with the Environmental Youth Alliance. Read more . . .
A Successful Persons’ Day!
On October 17th, we partnered with The University Women’s Club to hold an Education Day. The theme of the day was ‘The politics of women’s lives’. Hosted at Hycroft, the Persons’ Day event was a great success! The event featured an engaging talk by Maureen F. Fitzgerald, PhD and a panel presentation led by Mary Collins and featuring former MP Penny Priddy, Vancouver city councillor Suzanne Anton, the Chair of the Vancouver School Board, Patti Bacchus. Announcing the first member of our new Advisory Board
We are delighted that the Hon. Mary Collins, PC has accepted our invitation to become the first member of our Advisory Board. Our board members and committees will benefit from the mentorship of experienced and successful leaders in politics and other fields.

News from the Board of Directors
We are pleased to announce that Grace Smith has been elected in the role of Treasurer for the Canadian Women Voters Congress. With a solid background in finance and business management, Grace Smith will continue to develop appropriate financial oversight for the organization. We now welcome her to a position on the Executive Committee of the board of directors. Special thanks to Lisa Hudson, Board Secretary, for covering the role of Treasurer as our new board members were oriented to their new positions.
At a recent planning day, the board reaffirmed our commitment to our mission: We help women achieve success in politics and leadership. A vision statement and values were also developed and are available on our website. Read more . . .

Membership
We want you to join us! Our membership committee is working on ideas and activities to engage our members. In 2010, we will be holding members only events as well as providing members with priority for educational events. We are working on the details and will post them on our website when they are available.

The draw will take place at a members only social event in January. The Education Committee has begun work on the next event, likely in March. Stay tuned!

The education committee is seeking additional members.
